Over Strijp-T
Strijp-T — the place where new solutions and technologies are developed and groundbreaking ideas come to life; precisely what Strijp-T was originally conceived for.
STRIJP-T MODEL
The world is changing rapidly. To be able to keep innovating and to connect with this changing world, people, organizations and the way they work really have to change. When organizations collaborate and thereby strengthen their specific strengths (ecosystem), the difference is made. At Strijp-T we innovate together, on the way to creating this future world.
The model above shows which organizations meet the Strijp-T designation. By these organizations we mean companies, company divisions and research or educational institutions. There are 4 criteria that ('from inside to out') together determine whether an organization fits on Strijp-T. These are, in order:
1. The role in the chain of make-create-innovate
2. The connection with (one of) the theme areas (hightech, smart-society, sustainability, experience)
3. The nature of the organization
4. Support functions: connected to and for the strengthening of the ecosystem at Strijp-T.
The organizations on Strijp-T must meet all of the first 3 criteria or be supportive of them (4th criteria).
CRITERION 1: THE CHAIN MAKE-CREATE-INNOVATE
First of all, organizations on Strijp-T have their own role in the make-create-innovate chain in which there is at least a 'make' component in combination with a 'create' and/or 'innovate' component. They are therefore in any case:
· aimed at making or producing products, and moreover on:
· to creatively add value to these products or improve them, and/or
· come up with new products in an innovative way. These can be complete products, modules or components or production methods.
We view making, creating and innovating in the broadest sense of the word: what do we make, how do we make it happen and how do we bring it to the customer (in line with Doblin's ten types of innovation). Within the chain of the creative industry, which is larger than just Stijp-T, innovative ideas are jointly developed into products that are ready for the market. This concerns both physical and digital products. Each organization focuses on a part of the chain in which they are specialists and works together with other specialists to achieve a good end result.
CRITERION 2: THEMATIC AREAS
Moreover, the organizations at Strijp-T are active in one or more of the four theme areas. These areas align with the major developments and challenges of the future (health, mobility, energy, food, safety).
High-tech:
Developing advanced technology. Generally products with high complexity and low volumes that are aimed at making work in the future, in particular, easier, more efficient and better.
Think of:Biotechnology, Medical technology, precision instruments, 3D printing, etc.
Smart society:
Finding solutions in a smart way, with the help of data and technology, for the major changes in our society, cities and homes. In this way, organizations ensure a pleasant and social life in the changing society.
Think of:Big data, Mobility, livability, Internet of Things (IoT), etc.
Sustainability:
Investigating how to sustainably provide for the (growing) needs of humanity, without endangering people, the environment or the economy.
Think of:Sustainable building, circular economy, energy transition, etc.
Experience:
Responding to the changing way of life, where experience becomes more important than ownership.
Putting people and their experience at the center, possibly supported by new technologies.
Think of:Experience and virtual/augmented reality labs, gamification, etc.
CRITERION 3: NATURE OF THE ORGANISATION
Furthermore, the organizations on Strijp-T can be characterized as growing, ambitious organizations that want to take the next step and are innovation-driven. This is because they themselves innovate, carry out their activities in an innovative way, or because they deliver (a contribution to) an innovative product (read: product or service). These organizations are, on the one hand, business-to-business companies (companies that deliver something to other companies) or business units.
On the other hand, these are educational organizations (programmes) focused on practice-oriented and innovative education (technical or business-related). It is important that industry and education reinforce each other to achieve lifelong learning. Students can gain concrete experience with and within businesses. In the programmes, ideas and technologies are developed that can be picked up or further developed within industry. At Strijp-T, education is aligned with the market and can respond more quickly to what the market demands.
All organizations on Strijp-T must be functionally connected to the ecosystem. In addition, the presence of the organization must strengthen/complement the concept and ecosystem. In the interest of sufficient diversity, a multitude of identical/similar organizations or functions within Strijp-T will be actively discouraged in order to safeguard the strength and quality of the concept.
CRITERION 4: SUPPORT FUNCTIONS
To enable organizations on Strijp-T to truly collaborate on the developments and challenges of the future, supportive functions will also be established on Strijp-T. These functions help to meet one another (Strijp-T organizations and their employees, customers, suppliers and functional relationships), to learn from one another, to inspire each other and to forge connections. This is to enrich one another and to actually pass innovations on to each other and to the world. These supportive functions increase the innovation and working climate and strengthen the disparate parts within the chain, often in communication.
Think of:hospitality (hotels, restaurants, cafes), exhibition space, open work-/ presentation spaces, sport- / leisure facilities, etc.
READY FOR EVERY FUTURE
In this rapidly changing world you never know exactly what the future brings. At Strijp-T you are ready for every challenge. Because Strijp-T is, like Eindhoven, resilient and flexible. Do you change as a company or do the wishes change? There is always a suitable place to be found on the site. In another existing building or in new construction. Once on Strijp-T you don't have to leave anymore. It is a home base,now and in the future.
